Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Local festivals are significant cultural events that preserve and promote heritage, traditions, and community identity. In Argungu Local Government, Kebbi State, the famous Argungu Fishing Festival is an emblem of cultural pride, attracting national and international attention. Print media plays a crucial role in documenting and promoting such events, fostering cultural preservation and encouraging tourism. Through feature stories, photojournalism, and event reporting, newspapers and magazines capture the essence of local festivals, ensuring their continuity and relevance in an evolving society (Bello & Ibrahim, 2023).
